In Phuket alone 20,000 dogs live a pitiful existence on the streets.
No laws exist to govern the humane treatment of animals.
No government agencies protect them from abuse.
Other than the Soi Dog Shelter There are no humane rescue shelters. Only a handful of volunteer groups feed and show them kindness.

Killing by strychnine poisoning remains a shocking reality as well as drowning at sea and other inhumane methods.
Religious beliefs prohibit euthanasia even in desperate cases. Life for Thailands street dogs is truly grim.
Some can no longer survive on the street young puppies who have lost their mother, victims of road traffic accidents, cruelty and abuse or those that are simply starving to death.
A lucky handful are rescued by SDF and, when fully recovered, offered for Adoption to people who understand the responsibilities of pet ownership.

If you think you can provide a loving, long-term Home for one of our rescued dogs or cats, then please click on the Adoptable Animals link.
