This part of our sterilization program involves catching dogs and cats, and taking them to a local veterinary clinic for spay or neuter. These animals stay in the clinic overnight after surgery and are fully vaccinated and given a tattoo in both ears, prior to be put back where they came from. If however, an animal is found to be in poor health, it will be kept in the clinic for treatment until release is considered to be prudent. This is also done for those suffering from severe mange or venereal disease, especially when these animals had to be blow-darted or trapped. If we can revisit the animals for treatment, rather than confining them, we will do that. Additionally, nursing dogs and cats are made note of and followed up on.

Local people are also encouraged to bring dogs and cats they ‘own’ or ‘feed’ for sterilization. When we meet obstacles, which we often do, we explain the Schools Program of both spay and neuter as part of our educational efforts.  In order to make this project more effective, we contact local authorities to inform them of our plans and to ask their cooperation in the form of announcements and advice as to where we can be most effective.

Soi Dog Foundation typically targets a specific area to focus on at any one time. Additionally, though, we help other individuals and organizations who need our services, especially when blow-darting and transportation is required. Needless to say, areas where there is an urgent need, we immediately divert our attention to. Also, working together with the local government’s Life Stock Office is important here.  While assisting at government field clinics, we find that we can catch more female animals than can be spayed on location, we take them to one of currently three local clinics who work with us on a reduced fee basis, paid for by Soi Dog Foundation.  Additionally, sick or severely mangy animals and those suffering from VD, are also admitted for further treatment at our cost. Tthe government does not provide for this. You can imagine that all these projects require a substantial amount of money. The more dogs and cats sterilized the better! But this also means the higher the costs will be!!

Please help us to help the street and stray dogs & cats so that a happier and healthier environment is created for people and animals alike!
